Pay for performance—it’s hot, and for good reason. It focuses attention on the goals, ties some pay directly to results, and keeps down that ever-creeping base pay number.  But exactly how to implement it and for what level of employee? That’s what we’re going to find out for you.

For years, BLR has surveyed HR and benefits professionals to find out their actual compensation and benefit offerings. This year, we have expanded our survey program by conducting a series of brief, targeted surveys. Today’s topic: pay for performance.

We want to find out how companies like yours are using pay for performance to motivate employees and keep ranges and pay in line. Please help by filling out our brief survey; we’ll share the results so you can get an idea of how you measure up and what alternatives you could be considering.

Here are the issues we’re probing in our survey:

Which types of performance pay do you use (merit, piece, commission, bonus, etc.) and for what employees (execs, middle managers, professional, nonexempt, etc.)?

  • How involved are employees in setting pay for performance plans?
  • How do you manage pay for performance for groups or teams?
  • Please take a few minutes now to complete this brief survey.

By sharing your insight, opinions, and experience, you’ll help us highlight trends and define benchmarks—by industry, geographic location, and size of employer—that will inform your decision-making for the coming year. At the same time, you’ll find out how your fellow HR professionals are handling tricky compensation challenges, and you’ll be able to compare your practices with those of your competitors.
