HR Strange But True

Do Zombies Carpool to Work? Not in Arizona

Do zombies carpool? Ride bikes? Take the bus to work?  A commuter who thinks so is the subject of a new infomercial that assures him that the zombies that populate his imagination do none of these—at least not in Arizona.

The Pima Association of Governments, which sponsors the regional sunrideshare commuter program, has used the zombie craze to show how old views of public transit, carpools, and biking to work should be buried alive!

A hapless employee asks a colleague, “Why are more people driving, but less know how to drive?” after an especially horrible commute to work.  The colleague tells him what she has learned from HR about their company’s subsidized commuter program, but the man can only envision zombies sharing the ride.

No longer the “loser cruiser,” the infomercial shows that buses are not full of zombie-like riders, but just people reading, e-mailing, and just relaxing instead of becoming stressed out.

Zombies also don’t carpool!  Instead, you can ride to work with new friends, help the environment, and get to park nearer the building.

And zombies don’t pedal to work—well, they would have a hard time riding a bike, if they had one.  The commuter, who knows he has a bike somewhere, hears how biking to work helps the environment, keeps employees healthy, and gives them more energy.

The commuter then learns that not only can he save money by using sunrideshare, but also, how he can earn points towards gift cards in its Rewards Program. His nightmares are over!
