HR Strange But True

My Name Is Sam Sung; I Work for Apple

It may seem like a joke, but believe it or not Apple® hired a man named Sam Sung. It’s no secret that Apple and Samsung (the company) are bitter enemies; they’ve been fighting over copyrighted designs for the last 3 years.  But ironically, Sam Sung is the one getting the last laugh.

Sung, a former Apple specialist, is selling his last Apple business card for charity. According to Sung’s eBay auction page, “I had a great time working for Apple and would recommend it to anyone. I hope my old business card will go to another fellow Apple enthusiast with a sense of humour (sic) and the desire to help raise some money for a good cause.”

The auction consists of Sung’s last business card featuring his name and his former job title. Sung was nice enough to frame the card and include one of his old Apple work shirts and an Apple lanyard. Sung even signed his name to provide the memento with a certain level of authenticity.

The current bid for the business card was over $80,000 (at the time this was written) with all the proceeds —minus eBay fees— going to the Children’s Wish, BC & Yukon in Canada. The charity is similar to the U.S. Make-A-Wish® Foundation, which grants wishes for children with terminal illnesses. It is interesting to note that one person has placed over 11 bids on this item and they are for pretty substantial amounts. Whoever the lucky person is who wins the auction, will be receiving an ironic piece of history. Who else can say they own an Apple business card that reads, “Sam Sung; Specialist!”
