HR Strange But True

Résumés Not Getting You Noticed? Try a Billboard!

After the recent job recession, all too many people know the struggles of looking for a job. Sending out multiple résumés and making dozens of phone calls can only get you so far. How do you attract the employer of your dream job? Try a billboard!

One man in Ontario, Canada, desperately wanted to work for Google, so he paid $500 to post a billboard right in front of their office to get their attention. The billboard featured a link to his website résumé (which coincidentally is a Google-powered website) in the hopes that Google would take notice and give him an interview.

It worked! Google requested to have an interview with the man. In response to the interview, he said “I wanted to make sure I got noticed by Google and that hopefully that they would take a gander at me, and see that I want to work for them and why I want to work for them. It’s not just about a paycheque, it’s about doing something more.”

The man currently works as a consultant and had previously held a position as project manager for a gas company. He specifically wants to work for Google Fiber. Fiber is a high-speed Internet service that promises download speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second. Currently, it is only available in Kansas City, Missouri and Kansas; Provo, Utah; and Austin, Texas. He says that his passion for changing the world and Taoist work ethic make him a perfect candidate for Google.

There is no word on whether he has received an offer of employment, but we wish him all the best!

  1. I’m curious if Google was seriously considering him, or just thought it’d be bad PR not to at least interview him. But the billboard company must be happy!
