HR Strange But True

Get Hired Based on Your Career Selfie

What’s worse, trying to sum up your work history in 200 characters or less, or getting hired—or not hired—based on your looks? Pitman Training has now developed an app that pushes the envelope in social media and career development.

The app is called #MyCareerSelfie and it was designed to challenge role perceptions, encourage confidence, and eliminate stereotypes that surround certain jobs and industries around the world. People who participate will be entered into a contest to win lots of prizes. The purpose of the selfie is to define and proposition your career value. From the looks of it, only nine people really value their careers!

How does it work? You simply upload a photo to the website, enter your job title and a 200 character or less description about what you do at your job, put in your contact information, and away you go! It is unclear how this app will really help anyone further their career, but the website does offer some valuable training resources for potential new hires.

The question still remains, would you use this app to look at potential job candidates? Or does it seem too risky? Let us know what you think! Send us your opinion on this app at HRSBTstories@blr.com
