HR Strange But True

Santa’s on the Naughty List This Year

You would think Santa would be unbiased to all children, but that’s not the case for one mall Santa in Mission Viejo, California. A local Santa and elf committed a cardinal sin recently, and we’re not talking about robbing the mall.

These two grinches turned away an autistic child and her service dog, instead of letting her take a picture with Santa. It turns out, the service dog happened to be a pit bull named Pupcake, and the two holiday workers were afraid for their lives. However, this cowardly act also cost them their jobs!

Santa refused to take a picture with the child and the dog because according to him, “those dogs eat people.” The mother offered to take the dog outside, but Santa still refused because he did not want to take a picture with someone who supports “those dogs.” The mother then informed Santa about the laws regarding service dogs, to which he then replied that he was allergic to them.

This isn’t the first case of Santa lacking some Christmas spirit. A mall Santa in Maine was recently fired for being rude and grumpy after parents and children complained that he was being less than jolly. One child claimed that when she asked for an American Girl doll, Santa told her she would be getting an American football instead.

Not clear who the employers of these Santas were (the mall, a temp agency), but after these two instances, there may be coal in these Santas’ pay envelopes this year!

  1. The story about the autistic child is very disturbing. Temporary Santas need just as much training as any other employee.
