Jesus Take the Wheel! Driver Fired for Falsifying Driving Record

Have you ever seen those “Jesus is my copilot” bumper stickers? Well, one driver from Texas took this bumper sticker slogan literally to a whole new level. And now he’s out of a job because of it.

A driver from Rio Grande Valley, Texas, has been fired for “falsifying” driving records. All truck drivers in the United States are required, by law, to keep logbooks of their travels. In this man’s case, he kept the logbooks up to date; but he listed Jesus as his codriver.

In the book, there is a field for the driver’s signature and codriver name, but there is no signature required for the codriver.

According to KRGV.com, the man received a letter of termination that states “he was told to stop ‘submitting incomplete documentation and falsifying legal documents.’ It also stated writing Jesus as a codriver is a violation of federal and state law.” By falsifying the record, the driver and the company can be held liable.

However, the driver feels differently and maintains that he was wrongfully terminated because of his religious beliefs. He has stated that “Jesus is my codriver, and I have no shame in that.”

The man also claimed that no one had ever told him to stop putting Jesus’s name in the logbook; and if they had, he would have just put a cross there or nothing at all. The driver isn’t worried about finding a new job; he is confident he can get one soon. He just wants other drivers to stand up for what they believe in, too; and if that means having the central figure of Christianity as your copilot, then so be it!

  1. Would it have been better or worse if he wrote “Dog is my codriver” (another popular bumper sticker)?
