HR Strange But True

More Strange but True Job Interviews from You!

A few weeks ago, we reported on CareerBuilder’s list of strange things that have happened during job interviews. From stolen family photos to pet birds in shirts, there were no shortages of strange events that made it to the CareerBuilder® list.  Our readers also chimed in on their strangest interviews:

One reader claims an applicant brought a half-eaten hamburger and a beer to the interview. In front of the company president, the applicant put the items on the table, took a drink of the beer and asked “So what’s this job about?”

Another reader also shared their wackiest interviewing experience, claiming an applicant let out a yelp during the interview and started rummaging through her purse. The applicant then pulled out a pair of nail clippers, clipped off the broken nail, and then proceeded to file it, all the while answering the interviewer’s questions.

We love hearing your HR strange but true tales. So keep them coming! Share your craziest interview experiences, or any strange HR tale you may have, in our comments section below or e-mail us at HRSBT@blr.com and it could be featured in the next HRSBT!

  1. Obviously, the screening process was a failure from the start where they didn’t screen for stronger candidates. When a company screens potential candidates they need to ask on target questions related to the job along with past experience to insure job fit and if they could do the job prior to being asked to come in for an interview. Usually when a screening interview is set up the candidate has time to do some research about the company and that is one question I always suggest asking candidates, “Tell me what you know about our company”.
