Another Computer Employer Sued For Overtime Violation

San Jose-based Cadence
Design Systems, Inc., has joined the ranks of companies hit with class action wage
and hour suits challenging the exempt classification of computer workers. In
late May, Cadence was slapped with charges that the company misclassified as
exempt, and failed to pay overtime wages to, hundreds of systems
administrators, network technicians, helpdesk support workers, and other
technical staff in its offices in San Jose, San Diego, Irvine, Berkeley, and Napa, plus Massachusetts, Texas,
and Utah. The
suit alleges that the employees don’t qualify for the computer software
professional exemption or any other exemption under state and federal wage and
hour laws.
