All the Changes in Employment Law You Need to Know at One Time … in One Beautiful Place

BLR announces its first annual Employment Law Update conference … all you need to know about changes in the law this year … in one beautiful setting—Walt Disney World.

Who says you can’t keep up with the latest in employment law changes and enjoy it at the same time?

Certainly not BLR. And we intend to prove it next month at the beautiful Buena Vista Palace Hotel & Spa in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. (Lake Buena Vista, for all without kids at home, is the official name of the purpose-built town that houses Walt Disney World.)

From November 7 through 9, this will be the home of BLR’s first annual Employment Law Update conference. The purpose of the conference is to provide, in one convenient and beautiful location, everything you need to know about how employment law has changed this year due to legislative, agency and court actions, and also what changes are in the works for the future.

Attendees of the Nov. 7-9 2007 Employment Law Update Conference are eligible for up to 15 credits toward HRCI certification. Click here or see note below for details

These dates are propitious, as Congress closes out its current session at the end of October. The U.S. Supreme Court also opens its session that month, letting us know what will be on the docket in the coming year and, of course, action in other courts and the agencies has been ongoing.

This is also exciting for us here at BLR, as this is the first time (other than standing on one foot at trade shows) that we will have a chance to meet you face-to-face … to answer your questions and hear your concerns, and to talk with you.

Here are some of the subjects the conference will cover:

–Up-to-the-minute court decisions, including the recent Supreme Court pay-bias and overtime for caregivers cases, both of which will affect many businesses.

–Related rulings by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on caregiver bias, plus EEOC’s latest guidance on avoiding charges of discrimination and harassment.

–A preconference (Nov. 7) “master class” on the exempt/nonexempt provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act, violations of which are now the Department of Labor’s number one target. If companies like IBM and Wal-Mart, with all their resources, have fallen victim … which they have … you know this is an area you need to be up to speedon. We’ll help get you there!

–The Supreme Court’s decision in the Seattle School District case and what it does to your diversity planning. Not only schools but also virtually all organizations need to pay heed.

–The troubling area of leave … how to navigate the tricky shoals of the Family and Medical Leave Act and corresponding state law; best ways to keep intermittent leave from upsetting your routines; and how to prevent abuse while allowing loyal employees the time they legitimately need.

–Best practices in hiring, performance appraisals, dress codes, internal investigations, and the tricky area of recordkeeping.
