50,000 Hires – One Day!

Imagine you were to hire everyone who lives in your town. Do you live in a small town? Say 5,000 people? You’ll want to double that number…then multiply that by five. That’s how many people McDonald’s Corp plans to hire on April 19

The addition of 50,000 new hires is part of the fast-food chain’s efforts to prepare for the busy summer months, which will increase the company’s U.S. workforce by 7.7 percent to 700,000. Although some of the positions are seasonal and temporary, McDonald’s will reportedly fill permanent jobs also, including a number of managerial positions.

McDonald’s spokeswoman Ashlee Yingling told Reuters that there would be opportunities for the new hires to work their way up in the company. Many of McDonald’s Corp top executives and franchise owners have done the same thing, she said.

McDonald’s said it and its franchisees would be spending an extra $518 million on wages and salaries for the new workers it plans to hire this April. Last year, McDonald’s hired 13,000 workers in an event held in its Western Region, which drew more than 60,000 applications.
