Take a Proactive Approach to Workplace Mental Health

Fair warning: this may be an uncomfortable topic. However, it is important to bring it to light. Mental illness has touched everyone on some level, and it reaches into the workplace, too. Because May is Mental Health Awareness month, there is no time like the present to make this subject a priority at your place of business.

With the recent launch of our HR & Mental Health site, we are seeking to help you with the conversation. The questions are many: as an employer, what can you say or not say to an employee about mental health? What can you do to support an individual who has mental health issues, as well as those who work with him or her? Perhaps most importantly, why should you plan for and deal with this uncomfortable topic?

To get some insight into how mental health issues impact the workplace, we sought information from Paul Gionfriddo, president and CEO of Mental Health America, the oldest nationwide mental health advocacy organization in the country.
