HR Strange But True

Company’s ‘Diner Menu’ of Perks is Absolutely Scrumptious

A year-old, family-oriented start-up has won the top spot on Crain’s 100 Best Places to Work in New York City by offering a “diner menu” of luscious perks and benefits that would make your mouth water.

Button is a business-to-business tech company that connects mobile apps to one another—via the click of a button, of course—and whose clients include Ticketmaster, Airbnb, Uber, and OpenTable.

Crain’s quotes Button cofounder Stephen Milbank as saying the company is obsessed with employee engagement and supporting its workers in every aspect of their lives, especially with regards to family life.

How? Read this “menu” of perks and benefits—it’s hard to choose which one you’d like best:

  • A $500 annual stipend for each employee to use for a getaway to destress, plus $500 for each spouse or child who wants to go along
  • Daily lunch from local, nonchain restaurants
  • Happy hours
  • On-site group exercise classes
  • Monthly rewards for accumulating hours volunteering
  • $1,000 “gift” for the birth, surrogacy, or adoption of a child
  • 17 weeks of paid maternity/paternity leave
  • $100 monthly bonus for trying clients’ and potential clients’ on-demand services
  • $750 annual stipend for employee-chosen external professional development courses

And, there is another sweet treat on the menu: Reviews and bonuses are not based on meeting manager-driven criteria, but rather on progress in employee-identified areas that need improvement!
