Survey Says More than 10% of U.S. Workforce on FMLA Leave

A report recently published by ComPsych, an employee assistance provider, shows more than 10 percent of U.S. employees are on Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) leave at any given time.

“While some industries such as health care and call centers have as much as 30 percent of workers on FMLA leave, we still have seen the average number of absences rise across all sectors of the U.S. workforce,” said Dr. Richard A. Chaifetz, founder, chairman and CEO of ComPsych.

“Employers continue to deal with the complexities of the act and the documentation involved. In the last year alone, there were more than 160 changes to state and federal FMLA regulations, and outsourcing the administration of FMLA has become increasingly attractive to employers as a result.”
