Build Trust with These Teambuilding Activities

Over the last two posts, we’ve been covering teambuilding activities to help build trust among your workers. In this article, we’ll cover four additional activities to try.

Teach Me!

In addition to building trust, teambuilding can help build confidence. A great way to build confidence in your team members is to let them demonstrate their knowledge, experience, and expertise to others.
That’s where this activity comes in. Each group member gets a few minutes to teach the group something that isn’t common knowledge and to answer questions.

The One Question Icebreaker

These teambuilding activities don’t need to be complicated. Science of People recommends a one-question icebreaker activity where everyone in the group answers one ice breaker question. Here are some examples they provide:

  • What’s one thing the group doesn’t know about you?
  • What’s your favorite TV show?
  • What’s your favorite meal?
  • What’s your dream vacation spot?
  • What book, movie, or TV character is most like you?
  • If you could meet any person, living or dead, who would he or she be?

Book Club

This works the same as any other book club. The only difference is that it’s made up entirely of your team. Pick a book, set a deadline to finish reading it, and have a discussion session. You might learn a lot about your teammates by what they like and dislike about a particular book and their interpretation of it.

Learn Team Science

Finally, learning team science can be a great way to build greater team cohesion because it teaches the group the fundamentals of what makes a great team. Instead of having the group members go through individual exercises, they can be experts and work daily to come up with their own innovative ways to improve the team.
We’ve talked about the importance of teambuilding, discussed some steps and strategies those putting together such activities should consider in advance, and reviewed 12 suggested activities. Hopefully, managers and other leaders can use this information to help build team cohesion and cooperation within their organizations.
These kinds of activities can also be built into virtual meetings and L&D opportunities. Scenario-based learning is also a great tool to boost online engagement; it’s a topic that will be addressed at our annual conference, Workforce L&D.
