HRSBT told you when Lady Gaga took a break from her touring to do an internship with British hat designer Philip Treacy. Well, another celebrity recently spent time as an intern at GQ magazine and scored a slam dunk.
And though he is used to calling all the shots on his regular job, colleagues at the magazine gave him a high score. The intern, whose work attire is baggy shorts and sneakers, is known for his special sense of fashion and a well-stocked closet. This unpaid intern was none other than Celtics point guard Rajon Rondo.
Having a pro athlete at a magazine was so unusual that the “Today Show” shadowed Rondo on the job, and he just appeared on “Fashion Police.” The NBA star worked a regular workday and did usual intern tasks such as assisting with preparations for Fashion Week, including carrying bags of clothing and picking out shoes for photo shoots. Some media even report he made photocopies! See more about his internship here.
Why did he do the internship? Rondo told GQ that he wants to keep reinventing himself. He intends to try internships in other occupations, too, so look at your internship job descriptions to see if he would be a good fit.
In related Strange but True news from the basketball world, LeBron James announced that he was scouting colleges for interns to work on his website (although we doubt he would be the one doing the hiring). The interns’ tasks include researching trends and advancements in the tech and sports arena, assisting the content development team, and communicating with fans. The deadline to apply was June 4.
