Look around your desk. Do you see chaos and clutter? Or do you see organization and cleanliness? What does your desk say about you?
OFM recently held a contest to see just that; what your desk says about you. The contest was held from October 1 through November 1 and required contestants to take a picture of their desk, post it to Twitter with #Mydesksays, and mention OFM in the tweet. The contest drew thousands of entries, but there were only three winners; the messiest desk, the most organized, and the catch-all desk. Each winner will receive an OFM chair of their choosing.
The desk contest was a great way for OFM to see what’s going on in people’s minds. “The office desk is really just an extension of the human mind,” said Blake Zalcberg, chief executive officer at OFM. “This is the workshop where you do your thinking every day, basically, and it can be revealing, often unintentionally, about what’s going through your head. It was fascinating to see what people thought about their desks in this contest.”
OFM holds crazy contests to see how office furniture is being used in its natural habitat. Other contests include how to prevent coworkers from stealing your stapler, what kinds of doodles are being drawn in long meetings, and why their company deserves an office makeover.
Zalcberg adds, “We always learn something new about how people use our products when we ask them to share photos or even just stories about what they do at work. And I think that people get a kick out of sharing them, too. The modern office can be an interesting place.” What will the next contest from OFM be? We’ll just have to wait and see, but what we do know is, there will be no shortage of odd human thinking!
I love that the company awarded both the messiest and the most organized desk. Who’s to say one is better than the other?
