When you think of fashion magazines, you think of men and women wearing trendy clothes and posing provocatively. For one Australian fashion magazine, it took its ad campaign a little too far when recruiting interns.
Sunday Style, an Australian-based fashion magazine, took to Instagram to announce that it was looking for interns. Social media recruiting is all the rage these days and, when done properly, it can have some great results. However, Sunday Style went about it all wrong.
Plastered all over the magazine’s Instagram account was a scantily clad model posing in a rather suggestive position with the words “Interns wanted” scrawled across the photo. In the photo caption, it said the magazine was searching for interns and that anyone who was interested should tag themselves, or their friends, in the photo and forward their résumés to an e-mail address.
I don’t know about you, but I definitely wouldn’t want my “Photos of Me” section featuring a woman half naked; and she isn’t me! And apparently neither did a bunch of other people. The photo caused such an uproar that instead of commenting with support, many people commented with cries of outrage.
The magazine has since taken the ad down and issued an apology, stating, “We made an error in judgement [sic] today with an image used in a recent Instagram post calling for interns that has since been taken down. We take our intern program seriously and apologise [sic] for any offence caused.” Clearly cutting edge style has gone a little too far!
I’d love to know the demographics of the response they got before taking down the ad!
