Are all your best, most efficient employees gradually leaving your organization? Is there a pattern that seems to be in motion? If the answers to these questions is Yes, you need to reconsider the internal workings of the company, and a whole lot of other things besides.
An organization’s employee turnover is a reflection of the number of employees that leave the company during a certain period of time. If the turnover rate for your company is constantly on the rise, you need to take a step back and decipher the reason for your employees’ departure. Here are 10 reasons why your best employees may be quitting:
- Subpar Work
Your most efficient employees may be quitting the job because of the lack of good work. If a particular employee is good at what he or she does, he or she will look for work that suits his or her capabilities. Providing inferior-quality assignments to your best employees is a surefire way to ensure that you lose them.
- Inefficient Management
Do your employees have to wait for hours before the day’s work comes in? If yes, you need to start making some serious changes in the way things are being managed. A laid-back style of management is not very encouraging for employees, and fuels doubt about their future at the company.
- Lack of Proper Training
Before an employee undertakes a task, he or she needs to be properly trained and acquainted with the internal operations of the work. Directly plonking the work onto an employee’s plate without any prior training and then expecting him or her to excel at the job will only give the employee more reasons to quit.
- Absence of Career Growth Opportunities
What most employees want from their job are well-defined growth patterns and ample career development opportunities. An organization that doesn’t provide room for growth won’t hold onto its employees for long.
- Incompetent Managers
One of the most common reasons employees quit their jobs is a bad manager. How often do you come across acquaintances that are not happy with their job because of an obnoxious manager? A manager who criticizes the employee’s work incessantly without actually offering constructive feedback will surely drive the employee up the wall and away from the company.
- No Accountability
An organization that doesn’t follow the concept of accountability and leaves everyone to their own devices cannot expect its employees to last. Without each employee being held responsible for the work they are doing, inefficient employees can get away with their mistakes while hard-working employees don’t get their dues.
- Excessive Workflow
This is another important reason efficient employees leave an organization. When there is no fixed pattern for the arrival of work or the workflow is too much to handle, it disrupts the work-life balance of employees and gives them a reason to switch jobs.
- Unhelpful Feedback
What use is a grilling feedback session if it doesn’t actually help your employee at all? Employees look for ways to improve their work through feedback, and if they don’t get this in an organization, it’s time to quit.
- Inadequate Compensation
The amount of money offered to employees also has a major impact on whether they’ll stay in an organization or not. If the salary is not on par with the amount of work the employee is being asked to do, they’ll definitely start looking for a new job.
- Work Culture
The work culture of the organization directly influences your employees’ decision to stay or leave. If the office schedule, reporting system, coworkers, and overall work environment are not proper, you can be sure that the workforce won’t stick around for too long.
