SBT readers have been submitting their own strange but true encounters with job applicants. So far we’ve heard about inappropriate attire and drug use, to name a few.
Here are two more tales from the unpredictable world of HR.
A Russian Request
Depending on the company’s policy towards vacation time, requesting time off before being offered a job may not be the best way to secure a second interview.
One applicant surprised this SBT reader by verbalizing such a request but with this surprising (and international) twist:
“I was asked by one applicant if he got the job would we give him time off to go to Russia and pick up his mail-order bride.”
‘The Reason I Left …’
We also heard from an SBT reader who works in a call center. The reader noted that most of the applicants are young and have little to no experience.
Here’s what happened:
“We ask candidates the reason why they left their last job. One candidate looked extremely professional and was well-spoken. She stated that she left because she was tired of sleeping around with everyone. (OMG!!!)”
