What are employers doing to help employees balance work and family needs? A survey by the Families and Work Institute of 1,000 employers with 100+ employees reveals that 90% of the employers gave workers time off to attend school events, and half let employees stay home with a mildly sick child without using vacation or sick time. More than two-thirds authorize flextime, allowing employees to adjust their work hours on a daily basis. Half the firms offer workers the option of setting aside pre-tax wages for child care or other dependent care expenses. Finally, although a third provide more than 13 weeks of maternity leave, only 9% offer child care services.
