The California Industrial Welfare Commission has scheduled two important meetings in May that could lead to significant overtime changes this summer. First, the IWC will meet at the state office building in Van Nuys on May 5 to discuss how the new overtime rules impact meal periods, exempt employees’ duties, pharmacists and theski industry. Then at a hearing at the state capitol in Sacramento on May 26, the IWC is scheduled to appoint members to the newly-created minimum-wage board, propose amendments to the alternative workweek rules and hear comments from the public on duties for exempt managers. Plus the IWC may reconsider its controversial decision to create a computer wage board to evaluate exempting certain computer professionals.
