More States Raise Minimum Wage

Kentucky and New Mexico are joining 27 states with minimum
wage rates above the current federal minimum wage of $5.15 per hour. In Kentucky, legislation has
been signed that will raise the state’s minimum wage to $7.25 in three stages.
The rate will go to $5.85 per hour (from the current $5.15) on July 1, 2007; to
$6.55 on July 1, 2008; and then to $7.25 on July, 1, 2009. Further, if the
federal minimum wage is raised higher than Kentucky’s
hikes, Kentucky’s
minimum wage will increase to keep pace.

In New Mexico, legislation will boost the state’s
minimum wage to $7.50 per hour over two years. The rate will rise from $5.15
per hour to $6.50 per hour on Jan. 1, 2008, and then to $7.50 on Jan. 1, 2009.
