Labor Commissioner Serves Restaurants Citations for Labor Violations

Teams from the
California Division of Labor Standards Enforcement (the labor commissioner’s enforcement
arm) recently investigated restaurants in Riverside
and San Bernardino
counties—and issued 38 citations for labor violations and $207,000 in fines. Violations
included failing to provide itemized wage statements and pay minimum wage, not
having permits for working minors, and not carrying workersʼ comp insurance.

In connection with
the two-day sweep, Labor Commissioner Angela Bradstreet stated: “Restaurants
that operate outside the law have an unfair advantage over their competitors.
It’s our job to protect workers and level the playing field for those
restaurant operators who do follow the law.”
