“Ignore them and they will go away” was advice that I heard about bullies when I was a kid (and about teeth by one snarky dentist). Whether that approach works or not, that certainly seems to be what fellow employees do most often to their toxic co-workers. Recent research shows that 44% of respondents say that ignoring toxic colleagues is their preferred approach.
The research was conducted by Fierce Conversations and is called the Toxic Workplace Report 2019. Similar research in 2017 found that 50% of respondents preferred to ignore their toxic coworkers, indicating that employees might be feeling more empowered to address this issue head-on.
