Labor Code Revision Applicable To Pay Statements In Effect

To protect employees’
privacy, California Labor Code Section 226 has been revised, effective January
1, to state that an employer cannot put an employee’s full Social Security
number (SSN) on pay statements; only the last four digits of an employee’s SSN
or a full employee identification number may be used. Employers that don’t
comply with Section 226 may be liable for damages, penalties, and attorney’s
fees.
