It’s no secret Jennifer Lawrence has been complaining about pay equality in Hollywood, but is it a coincidence that she’s also the highest paid actress?
According to Forbes, Lawrence made headlines this year when Wikileaks revealed that she and her female American Hustle costar, Amy Adams, received a lower cut of profits than their male costars. It was leaked that Bradley Cooper, Christian Bale, and Jeremy Renner all received a nine percent cut of the profits, while Lawrence and Adams only received a seven percent cut.
Forbes recently announced its list of the 18 highest paid actresses in Hollywood and, while I’ve already ruined the number 1 spot, you’ll be shocked to see who else made the list. Combined, these women make $281 million before taxes and fees, which is $660 million less than the 34 World’s Highest Paid Actors.
- Jennifer Lawrence ($52 million)
- Scarlett Johansson ($35.5 million)
- Melissa McCarthy ($23 million)
- Bingbing Fan, known for X-Men: Days of Future Past ($21 million)
- Jennifer Aniston ($16.5 million)
- Julia Roberts ($16 million)
- Angelina Jolie ($15 million)
- Reese Witherspoon ($15 million)
- (Tie) Kristen Stewart and Anne Hathaway ($12 million)
- Cameron Diaz ($11 million)
- Gwyneth Paltrow ($9 million)
- (Tie) Sandra Bullock, Amanda Seyfried, and Meryl Streep ($8 million)
- (Tie) Mila Kunis and Emma Stone ($6.5 million)
- Natalie Portman ($6 million)
Why are they comparing 18 (but only 14 listed) actresses with 34 actors? Seems like quite a false comparison.
