Bookstore chain Borders,
Inc., has been ordered by a federal judge to pay $333,228 to a worker fired soon
after she filed a wage and hour lawsuit. Clarice Prange, who worked in the
corporate sales department at a Borders store in
filed a lawsuit contending that she worked about 30 off-the-clock hours each
week without overtime pay. A few weeks later, she was fired, allegedly because
she had lied about her work experience in her job application. After a jury
found that the discharge was in retaliation for Prange’s overtime claims, the
court ordered Borders to reinstate Prange to her job. It also awarded her back overtime,
lost wages and benefits, liquidated damages, and punitive damages.
