I work at a church and have been told that we’re exempt from the California Fair Employment and Housing Act’s (FEHA) requirements. Is this true?

Yes. Nonprofit religious organizations are exempt from the FEHA’s prohibitions, which bar discriminatory employment practices by employers, labor organizations, employment agencies, and employment training programs. Employers that regularly employ fewer than five people are also exempt from the FEHA.
