It takes super nerve to quit a job in these challenging times. But, hey, when you have two jobs, it might seem easier to stand by your principles and resign. That’s what Clark Kent seems to think in the latest issue of DC Comics’ Superman.
The Man of Steel is appalled by “how journalism has given way to entertainment,” story author Scott Lobdell told USA Today. So he decides to go out on his own to create a principled blog where he can speak “the unvarnished truth.”
Kent has worked at The Daily Planet since the 1940s. Luckily, his boss, Perry White, never caught him moonlighting—or caught on to the fact that he may be an alien.
According to comicsalliance.com, Kent even delved into broadcast media as a news anchor in the early 1970s when The Daily Planet was acquired by media conglomerate Galaxy Broadcasting. (Well, he does have anchorish hair.)
But it looks like he is ready to make a clean break now, especially since the death of print is rumored as imminent. He must have some savings stashed away, or he many have held out until he was laid off so he could collect unemployment.
Like many employees, Lobdell says Clark Kent is also motivated in his job change by the insensitive and demeaning way Perry White treats him. Kent is also fed up with White’s old-style business model of hyping trite stories to sell papers, according to comicsallinace.com.
Guess Clark Kent will now be circling the globe on cable, rather than cape. Well, there just aren’t many phone booths to change in anymore.
