Planes, trains, automobiles … and buses, subways, and vanpools. Mass transit is the enviro-friendly (and cost-conscious) way to get to work. Soon the list may include a new way for techies in the Big Apple to get to their jobs—they can take the “nerd boat” to DUMBO!
Administration and the New York State Department of Transportation to expedite funding for an East River infrastructure project, a new ferry service he has nicknamed “the Nerd Boat,” to get techies to their jobs at tech hubs on Roosevelt Island and the area in Brooklyn known as “DUMBO” for “Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass.” The program would fund ferries and construction of new docks.
A pilot program has already helped over 2 million workers who otherwise would have a nasty commute over bridges that are in gridlock during rush hours or on crowded subways. Each ferry run can handle up to 150 people.
In August, Schumer announced plans for a “Nerd Bus” that would ease the commute of students to the CornellNYC Tech campus, as well as workers.
