Recently, BLR surveyed 700 HR professionals on the training and development practices at their organizations. The survey asked about types of training conducted, frequency of training, training methods, and types of training products and services used.
Here are some of the findings of the survey:
- When asked who makes decisions about training, 70% of the participants in our survey indicate that it’s executive management. Human resources management is involved in making those decisions for 67%. In-house counsel is involved in the decision-making process for 8% and training/development staff is involved for 39% of survey participants.
- Training is required by city or state law for preventing workplace harassment for 48% of respondents and discrimination for 35%.
- Compliance training is conducted when employees are first hired for 64% of survey participants and yearly for 45%.
- Training on job-related skills is the most common type of professional development offered by respondents (73%).
- The most popular method of training among respondents (58%) is in-person presentations by the HR department.
- It is difficult to find good training products/services for 42% of survey participants.
