You may think working at your company has you in a rat race, but at a Wisconsin company, employees are in a roach race—literally!
And this company also holds bedbug training camps. Well, not to train the vermin. So you probably have guessed that the company is a pest management firm.
NewsRadio 620/WTMJ reports that to celebrate its Customer Service Week, as well as benefit local charities, Batzner Pest Management of Milwaukee holds an annual Roach Race.
Employees get to pick their own roach to coach! Company spokesperson Brandon Lemke told WTMJ that employees develop their own selection process and training regime, which includes diets ranging from vegetarian to high-protein dog food. The trainee racers live in aquariums in the workplace.
On the big day, the races are held in the main conference room. Employees guide their entries by using soda straws to prod them like jockeys.
The roaches are rewarded for their efforts with early retirement—and freedom from the aquariums—under the watchful supervision of their pest management managers.
