Sure, you have tried to encourage your workers to take advantage of vanpool programs or public transit pass discounts. Now, because of a potential traffic nightmare, “employees” of some of the top television and cable shows have been asked to “share a ride” to the Emmys by carpooling in limos! And this could affect thousands of commuters.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, downtown Los Angeles faces a potential traffic nightmare as celebs try to make their way to the Nokia Theater for the event. Usually held on a Sunday, the event day was changed to a Monday because of a conflict for the network with an NFL game.
Unfortunately, the red carpet starts during—rush hour—the worst time for gridlock-prone LA to be clogged by a string of stretch limousines.
So event organizers are limiting the number of vehicles given passes to access drop-off points and asking attendees to “limo-pool” for the evening, perhaps having the cast of a show arrive together in one vehicle.
They don’t, of course, expect celebs to take public transit in their tuxedos and gowns. And taxis would be tacky.
This event should test the patience of already-harried LA commuters and perhaps encourage them to take a look at the benefits of those transit programs their employers offer.
It can’t be any worse than when Obama is in town. Maybe they could helicopter in?
