If you’ve ever seen Reservoir Dogs, the opening scene is all about tipping the waitress.
Mr. Pink, (played by Steve Buscemi) claims, “I don’t tip because society says I have to. All right, if someone deserves a tip, if they really put forth an effort, I’ll give them something a little something extra. But this tipping automatically, it’s for the birds. As far as I’m concerned, they’re just doing their job.”
Unlike Mr. Pink, a couple in Branson, Missouri felt their waitress deserved more than a tip. They bought her a car!
For an entire summer, a couple at the local Cracker Barrel kept seeing this old, dilapidated car in the parking lot. They thought the car had been abandoned because it was in such bad shape. Little did they know, the car belonged to one of the employees who worked there.
The couple asked around and discovered that the car belonged to one of the Cracker Barrel waitresses. During the Thanksgiving weekend, the couple surprised the waitress with a 2008 Ford Fusion. The waitress was extremely grateful because she was feeling depressed over not having enough money to replace the car, which was in such bad shape after five run-ins with deer.
The waitress has said, “It restored my faith in humanity. … There are good people in the world watching … that care … and you might not even know them.” So there you have it Mr. Pink, there’s no need to tip on precedent. Sometimes tipping comes from the kindness of peoples’ hearts.
That is a lovely story. I just hope the gift didn’t have unintended tax consequences for the waitress. Also–what’s with all the deer run-ins?!
