For many winter can be one of the worst seasons. It’s cold, it snows, but you still have to go to work. It can also mean braving harsh conditions.
A Colorado television reporter was recently hospitalized after trying to report in the frigid temperatures earlier this month. The man was all alone, trying to set up a live shot, when he noticed an issue while trying to connect his camera to his backpack.
He told producers the only way to fix it was to take his gloves off. He also mentioned his concerns of removing his gloves because it was so cold. The temperatures never reached above freezing that night—with a “feels like” temperature of 3 degrees—and, lo and behold, the man was hospitalized for severe frostbite.
The station has received criticism for not training its employees properly on the dangers of cold weather, but the ironic part is that they ran a whole segment on how to avoid frostbite earlier this winter. The reporter is recovering nicely, even tweeting out thanks you’s to all the people who supported him. We’ve got a long way to go until spring, so remember to bundle up because frostbite is no joke!
