In a previous SBT we asked readers, “What’s the weirdest thing you’ve seen or heard in an interview?”
Here are a few responses, all with a common element, inappropriate attire (and attitude for story #2):
One reader wrote:
Applicant came to interview for office manager/receptionist job, with short (midriff showing) sleeveless blouse with cropped jeans. Not dressed for whom you’d want to have clients see when they first enter your business.
Questionable outfits seem to be more common than not. Here’s another incident of not dressing the part:
I worked for a publishing company in a beautiful office building at a high-end address. Applicant came in to interview for an editor position wearing a sweat suit and sneakers with her hair in a ponytail like she just came in from jogging. After meeting with the managing editor, she came over to my desk and said “I didn’t want this job anyway—I want to work for a real publisher.” Not with that outfit and attitude!
