The U.S. Equal Employment
Opportunity Commission has announced that B&H Foto and Electronics Corp. will shell out $4.3
million to settle a lawsuit charging that the company paid Hispanic workers in
its
warehouses less than non-Hispanic workers and, based on their national origin,
didn’t promote them or provide them health benefits. Besides the payout, the
settlement requires B&H to make the Hispanic employees’ wages equal to
their non-Hispanic coworkers’ wages. B&H is one of the largest retail
sellers of photographic, computer, and electronic equipment in the
area.
