Being a mail carrier is a demanding job. Sure, it may look luxurious if you live in a rural town. You get to drive around all day and never have to leave the comfort of your vehicle. For one mail carrier in New Jersey, however, working in a rural town appears to be more of a curse than a blessing.
In Hillsdale, New Jersey, a mail carrier had to call for police backup after getting surrounded by menacing, ill-tempered … turkeys. Yes, you read that right! The Hillsdale police received a phone call around noon one day from a frantic postal worker who claimed to be trapped in his truck and surrounded by the feathered fowl.
The police came and scared the turkeys away, but the mail carrier had to skip three houses due to the incident. This isn’t the first incident of wild turkeys running amuck. A Massachusetts mail carrier claims to be accosted by wild turkeys on a daily basis. The postal worker uses a large stick to keep the birds at bay as he delivers the mail. The turkeys in that town have been known to block traffic and hang out in front of the lock shops. Rain, sleet, snow … weather won’t stop the mail, but wild turkeys sure do! Is it time for the U.S. Postal Service to look into its safety policies and procedures?
