We’ve featured several dog-related workplace stories in the HR Strange but True! column. Some of our favorites happen to be about employed canines like Bailey the Beagle, who came to the rescue during the bed bug panic.
Thanks to the Hartford Courant, which recently posted a slideshow highlighting 24 dogs at work, we are able to share more stories about canine colleagues.
Here are four positions held by four-legged friends:
Agata—Investigates baggage at the Vasquez Cobo airport, sniffing for drugs.
Location: Columbia
Job hazard: Agata has a 24-hour guard monitoring her food for poisoning after a $10,000 bounty was placed on her head!
Unda—Assists in avalanche search and rescue.
Location: Switzerland
Job hazard: Due to the nature of the job, Unda works in dangerous weather conditions.
Ruca—A member of the National Guard.
Current assignment: Sniffing out polycarbonate, a plastic used for making CDs and DVDs. This skill is used to locate illegal discs in street markets.
Location: Portugal
Job hazard: Before being employed in the piracy field, Ruca had a more dangerous position in the National Guard as a part of the drug detection team.
Clop & Chic—Assist Customs during spot checks. Highly skilled in locating contraband, specifically cigarettes.
Location: France
Job hazard: (We’re assuming here.) This team is faced with long hours and working on the road.
While the jobs above focus on safety and security, man’s best friend can be employed in other fields, too. Other job responsibilities highlighted in the Courant’s list include searching for truffles, assisting with rehabilitation/therapy, and modeling!
