g post, the IRS and Treasury Department recently issued proposed rules that they hope will better define governmental plan status. They’ve been seeking comments from the governmental plan community and now have scheduled public hearings on the matter on July 9 and 10.
Both public hearings will take place 10 a.m. in the IRS auditorium at 1111 Constitution Avenue N.W. Attendees must provide outlines of topics to be discussed by June 18. The proposal related to governmental plans (the General Notice) will be the topic of the July 9 hearing; refer to CC:PA:LPD:PR (REG–157714-06 in the outline. The proposal related to an Indian Tribal Government (ITG) governmental plan ( the ITG Notice) will be the topic of the July 10 hearing; refer to CC:PA:LPD:PR (REG–133223-08) in the outline.
Outlines can be submitted: (1) by mail to Room 5205, IRS, POB 7604, Ben Franklin Station, Washington, DC 20044; (2) by hand delivery to the IRS’ courier desk at 1111 Constitution Avenue N.W., Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.; or (3) electronically via the Federal eRulemaking Portal at www.regulations.gov.
