As the unemployment rate continues to hover around 4%, one would assume that workers are feeling optimistic about remaining gainfully employed. However, new survey findings show that these feelings are the exact opposite of what you would expect in a tight labor market.
According to a new study from social recruiting and on-demand outplacement firm, CareerArc, 48% of employed Americans are experiencing layoff anxiety. Of those, 34% say this is fueled by fear of a pending recession, 32% cite rumors around the office as the cause, and 30% say a recent round of workplace layoffs is to blame.
CareerArc’s “Layoff Anxiety Study” was conducted online within the United States by The Harris Poll on behalf of CareerArc from June 25-27, 2019 among 2,024 adults ages 18 and older, of which 1,061 were employed.
