If you are, or ever have been, in charge of hiring employees, you have probably seen your fair share of résumé bloopers. We’ve heard a few stories from our readers about confusing cover letters to disastrous spelling mistakes. Usually, culprits keep the mistakes to themselves. However, one woman has broken the norm and received national attention for making her résumé mishap public.
A 20-year-old Canadian woman fessed up to her résumé mistake on her Tumblr account. She e-mailed York University career center inquiring about jobs. She attached her résumé and cover letter, or so she thought, and accidentally hit send.
She quickly realized that she had mistakenly attached a quirky picture of Nicolas Cage.
Showing good humor, she posted a snapshot of the e-mail—which includes the attachment showing Nicolas Cage—on her Tumblr account. (The Washington Post has a picture of the e-mail if you’re intrigued.) Underneath the snapshot she wrote:
“I accidently sent my potential future boss a picture of nic cage rather than my cover letter+resume, which was a zip file titled with a bunch of numbers like the JPG I accidentally attached oh my god”
Did she get the job? No, according to an interview with the Post, the hiring manager followed up and said that the job was already filled. Whether Nicolas Cage had anything to do with it, we’ll never know.
On the bright side, the woman mentioned in the interview that she’s gained 800 new followers to her Tumblr.
