Let’s say you’re a wide receiver for the Cleveland Browns, and all of a sudden you’re faced with a 1-year suspension due to some pesky drug policy violation. What do you do? Why not take a crack at becoming a car salesman!
That seems to be the case for Josh Gordon, who was recently suspended for violating the National Football League (NFL) substance abuse policy; he failed a drug test due to secondhand marijuana inhalation. While Gordon could potentially miss 8 games or the entire 2014 season, hopefully he won’t miss out on some good commissions. The wide receiver will now be a goodwill ambassador for the Sarchione Auto Group, a northern Ohio-based car dealership.
“He’s going to put his time in,” says Jeff Sarchione, who co-owns the dealership. “He’ll be everything from a salesman to attaching himself at the hip with my brother and I, just learning the automotive business from top to bottom.” A spokesperson for Gordon says that he will not be selling cars, but he will be heading all community efforts for the dealership; including the Wounded Warrior Project.
This isn’t the first time NFL players have taken on odd jobs. During the 2011 NFL lockout, many players went to work in areas they knew nothing about. Chad Johnson, aka Chad Ochocinco, may have taken the odd job title a little too far! Ochocinco tried out for an MLS soccer team, worked as a snake wrangler, tried his hand at boxing, became a bull rider, and made a reality TV show with Terrell Owens. Gordon and Ochocinco may not be playing in the NFL right now, but at least they have some new skills to add to their resumes!
Guess he wasn’t eligible for the CFL either.
