Have you ever been so angry at a coworker, or your boss, or even the workplace vending machine that you just needed to let your frustration out? Well, now you can, with the Memo app.
This mobile feature is essentially a message board for you to rant about the company you work for. Users remain anonymous, but they are required to use a company-affiliated e-mail address or their LinkedIn account to sign up. This allows Memo to verify that the user is actually a worker and not just some person who likes to complain for the sake of complaining!
Once logged in, you can access your company’s “memo board” and post about all the awful things your coworkers do that annoy you. You can also read what others, from your company, have posted, and everyone remains anonymous. The posts can be shared publicly, but the users are identified by the company name.
Some companies are outraged by the app, but according to the developer there has been mostly positive feedback. So, what happens if someone posts something about you and you clearly know it’s Sheryl in accounting because she’s the only one you told that embarrassing story to? Well, the app’s privacy policy states that there is nothing they can do if a person is identified. They simply state not to be “mean.”
Obviously, we all know that’s not going to happen!
The app concept might be new, but the idea of online boards where employees and former employees complain about companies is hardly new and unlikely to ever go away.
