According to new figures from ADP Employer Services 2005 Screening Index, employment background checks were up by 12 percent in 2005 over the previous year. ADP reports that it conducted 4.86 million background checks in 2005, compared to 4.3 million in 2004. Forty-nine percent of the 2005 checks revealed a data inconsistency in education, employment, or credential verifications, compared to what the job applicant reported, down a bit from 50 percent in 2004.
Other highlights of the 2005 Screening Index include:
- Five percent of criminal background checks revealed a criminal record in the last seven years.
- Among driving record checks, 24 percent had one or more violations or convictions, and five percent had four or more.
- Forty-six percent of credit report checks showed a judgment, lien or bankruptcy, or had been reported to a collection agency.
- Eight percent of the workers’ compensation checks revealed an existing claim.
