Federal Minimum Wage Hike Tied To Tax Relief Measure

A new measure in the
House of Representatives, H.R. 5368, would tie an increase in the federal
minimum wage together with a proposal to provide tax relief for small
businesses. The concept behind the measure is that businesses afforded some tax
relief will be able to pay their workers more. The bill calls for a series of
minimum wage increases over four years, to $7.50 an hour by Oct. 1, 2009. The
current federal minimum wage stands at $5.15 per hour and was last boosted in
1997. You can find the bill online at http://thomas.loc.gov/home/c109query.html.
