Polo Ralph Lauren Sued For Labor Violations

A group of former
employees for Polo Ralph Lauren Corp. stores in San
Francisco
and Palo Alto
has filed a class action lawsuit charging the company engaged in illegal labor
practices, including not paying sales associates properly and detaining them in
the store after hours. The lawsuit, filed in San Francisco Superior Court,
claims that Polo Ralph Lauren required sales associates to work “off the clock”
and didn’t pay them for these extra hours. The employees also alleged that they
were denied required rest breaks. What’s more, the suit charges that sales
associates were detained in locked stores after work for up to 30 minutes—time that
they weren’t paid for—while their personal belongings were searched to ensure
they weren’t stealing from the retailer. The employees claim this practice amounted
to false imprisonment.
