Survey Shows Tenure Is Biggest Factor In Pay Level

In a new survey of 10,000
employees conducted by staffing firm Hudson, 57 percent of respondents said that
tenure is the determining factor in deciding employees’ pay at their company,
compared with 35 percent who say performance is the determining factor. Managers
have a slightly different perspective, with 48 percent reporting that their
organization pays their top performers the best, opposed to only 31 percent of nonmanagers.
The survey also found 72 percent of respondents are very or somewhat satisfied
with their compensation, and 44 percent said they would change their mix of
cash and benefits if they could. The survey also found that 32 percent of
respondents said they worked for an employer that offered Health Savings Accounts
(HSAs)—and 40 percent of these employees said they participate. More
information on the survey is at www.hudson-index.com/node.asp?SID=5763.
