Safety: DOL Offers Nine Tips for Safe Holiday Parties

If you’re planning a holiday party for employees, be sure to check out the U.S. Department of Labor’s Working Partners for an Alcohol- and Drug-Free Workplace website, which offers nine important tips for planning a safe holiday party and preventing impaired driving.

The DOL notes that improper use of alcohol at company parties may expose employers to various types of legal liability. The only sure way to avoid potential liability is to avoid serving alcohol at holiday parties and to prohibit employees from bringing in their own alcohol. On the other hand, if employers choose to provide alcoholic beverages, the DOL says they should be sure to consult and address state laws and resulting legal responsibilities.
